(UPDATED: September 25, 2019, JBS)
A visitor writes on September 21, 2014: "I felt compelled to send in a response after reading the completely inaccurate comments about this Pumpkin Patch that my children have been to at least once or twice a year for 16 years. I was so shocked by the comments that I showed them to a couple of former teachers of my kids who go to Ms. Heather's with their class yearly. First of all, yes they do purchase pumpkins in bulk, but there is a field there that has pumpkin plants growing. And Ms. Heather uses those plants daily to tell the children exactly how pumpkins are grown. This pumpkin patch is so popular that the re is no way that they would be able to grow the amount of pumpkins that they need. Secondly the people working there have always been polite and very welcoming. In the 16 years that we have been visiting we have never been treated rudely by anyone. The large building is indeed a house. It is the owner's home. The farmer's home. They live there and it is in fact a privately owned business. I have never had the impression that it had anything to do with a church fundraiser. I can't imagine where that comment came from. Next the school's come back year after year from all over south Louisiana and Mississippi, not because the owner knows them or "It's one of THOSE kinds of things" but because the children LOVE it. Each year they add something new and my children who are now from high school down to 1st grade look forward to exploring the new attractions every year. Lastly I want to talk about price. Children pay $7 each and adults are free. That means that my family pays $14 (my oldest is now considered an adult) and we can enjoy all of the activities available from the time we get there until dark. My kids can ride the horse tire zip lines, go through the corn maze, play on the huge red inflated tarp, take endless pictures in many different spots set up specifically for picture taking, race rubber ducks with water pumps and a lot of other things that I can't remember right off hand. Yes Pumpkins are cheaper at Walmart. So if you are an adult (which I suspect the person with the negative post must be since they stated that they weren't asked to pay anything), you can go buy a pumpkin at Walmart, but if you want a fun and inexpensive family day then ignore the previous comment and visit Ms. Heather's. A family with 4 children will only pay $28. You will be glad you did."
A visitor writes on July 27, 2014: "We visited Mrs. Heather's Pumpkin and Strawberry Patch in the fall, wanting to get some pumpkins for carving for Halloween. First, it is not a pumpkin patch. Pumpkins are trucked in (a flatbed arrived as we were walking in) and come in cardboard boxes on pallets just like at Walmart. They are placed in a grassy field. There a few displays, like a few rows of corn, a few bales of hay, a tractor and wagon, etc. The day we went, there were quite a few school buses with children. It looked like the children were charged $4 for a 5-8 inch pumpkin. The people working were not very nice or polite. I felt unwelcome and like an intruder the whole time. I didn't like being watched over the whole time. What looks like a gift shop from the outside is actually a home so I don't know what they are trying to present. I got the feeling it was a combination of a private venture and a church fundraising thing, or a private thing passed off as a church fundraiser. Probably some teacher or relative made a shady deal with school administrators for field trips. It seemed like "it's one of THOSE kinds of things". I'm glad the day we went we were not charged admission. I would have asked for a refund, even though I probably would not have received it from them. A waste unless you need to drive to the boonies to let your children walk in the grass. By the way, W-mart has bigger pumpkins for carving, and at a better price."
  • Saint Francis Episcopal Church - pumpkin patch- already gathered from the field,
726 Maple Street, Denham Springs, LA 70726. Phone: 225-665-2707. Alternate Phone: 225-610-8397. Fax: 225-665-2709. Email: [email protected]. Open: Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm and Sunday 12noon to 6 pm; October 07 to 31, 2012. Click here for current open hours, days and dates. Directions: Click here for a map and directions. Payment: Cash, Check. Click here for our Facebook page. The Pumpkin Patch is a fund raiser for the church and the Mission Church located in New Mexico where the Navajo Indians grow the harvest to support their community. We host field trips for daycare and kindergarten classes in the morning hours. Children are told a pumpkin story, given a small sample of 'pumpkin juice', and allowed to exploer the patch. Admission to the patch is free of charge. This is our 17th year hosting the Pumpkin Patch and people in the community know us year round as the 'Pumpkin Church'.
