2007 Pumpkin Festivals & Weighoffs
It looks like 2007's largest pumpkin is
a new World Record 1689 lbs to Joe Jutras from N. Situate, RI weighing in
at the Topsfield Fair Sept.28th, 2007 . Second place went to Don Young from De
moines, Iowa, weighing in at 1662 lbs and third place went to New Hampshires own
Bill Rodonis with his monster at 1566 lbs. All very impressive pumpkins.
Last year's giant was a 1,502
behemoth grown by a Rhode
Island farmer that set the previous world record for pumpkins. The Guinness
World Record book had a previous (pre-2006) best of 1,469 pounds. So, 2005,
2006, and 2007 saw larger pumpkins that ever before! So much for the
effects of heat drought and global warming on pumpkins!
